The Winter Event of 2021-2022 released on December 17th and ended on January 7th, 2021, as the second annual winter-themed event in Creatures of Sonaria followed the previous year's first introduction the Winter Event of 2020-2021.

Event Parts

The event progresses in parts, and each part introduces new and exciting features, creatures, or customization options to the game.

Part 1

Part 1 released on December 17th. Upon the release of the event, new minigames, two creatures, a palette, a plushie, and a new event currency were introduced to the game. Some modifications to the game's map were also made, which included things like ornaments, gifts, and splotches of snow texture scattered around.

Part 2

Part 2 released on December 24th. A plushie, a palette, and two creatures (one returning, one new) were introduced to the game.

Additionally, Archalium was released in the same update as Part 2.

Part 3

Part 3 released on December 31st. Two plushies, a palette, and three creatures (one returning and two new) were introduced to the game.

Apart from this, Minawii-type semiaquatics were removed and replaced entirely with Militrua-type semiaquatics. This means that all semiaquatics which were on this category:

  • Tire far faster underwater, meaning they are more vulnerable to aquatics (which do not tire by just being underwater) and all-terrain and other semiaquatics, no longer being able to outperform them (meaning for example that a Kendyll and a Militrua will have it easier to catch a Nymphasuchus, a Crata Peretina or a Minawii underwater).
  • No longer have a 6-minute cooldown for how long they can stay deep underwater without needing to touch the water surface, meaning they can AFK underwater like other all-terrain, semiaquatics and aquatics. As a side effect of this, they can now equip Dragon plush and Frost Dragon Plush without any drawbacks.

Obtaining Event Currency

Similar to the introduction of event-specific currency in the Halloween Event of 2021, this winter event introduced its own unique currency called Bell bells. Players can purchase bells from the Christmas Store from the Main Menu or they can collect the Gift Boxes that appear randomly across the map, typically in the same areas where food can spawn.

Upon collecting a gift box, the game may randomly drop 2-10 bells in place of the gift box to pick up, present an Unscrambler Minigame, a Creature Trivia Minigame, or (rarely) spawn a Winter Boss. By successfully completing a game or defeating a Winter Boss, players can earn Bell bells. Collecting gift boxes and completing tasks for an hour earned players around Bell 1,000-2,500 bells on average.

Quiz minigames

These require the player to have a certain knowledge of the game itself. Players are given 40 seconds to complete the minigame and if the player is unable to provide an answer within the time limit or answers incorrectly, the game will reveal the correct answer.

Creature Trivia Minigame

Trivia Game, ability-based questions.

Trivia Game, ability-based questions.

When a gift box is collected, it has a chance of bringing up a trivia question. All trivia questions follow the format of "What ability does the [Creature] have?", and 4 standard answers are offered to the player.

These answers include:

  • Bleed
  • Bleed Defense
  • Poison Defense
  • Necro Poison
  • Poison Attack
  • Breath
  • None
  • Answer Choice *NOTE: this is for one bugged question*

If answered correctly, the reward is Bell 15 bells. If answered incorrectly, the reward was Bell 2 bells during part 1, but none from part 2, as seen here.

Unscrambler Minigame

Word Scramble Questions will ask you to unscramble a creature's name

Word Scramble Questions will ask you to unscramble a creature's name. Unscramble the word to get Bells!

Upon collecting a gift box, there is a chance the game may present the Unscrambler minigame. The game prompts the player with a dialogue box containing a scrambled version of a creature's name, and by successfully spelling and identifying the creature within the allotted time, players can earn bells. Correct answers are not case sensitive (meaning the game will not punish players for using uncapitalized letters).

The reward for successfully completing an Unscrambler varies depending on the length of the word. Words with less than 8 characters give Bell 15 bells, and words with more than 8 characters give Bell 30 bells. If a word is incorrectly scrambled (or not finished), players will earn Bell 2 bells.

Winter Boss

The Evil Snowman boss can deal a decent amount of damage. Be careful when fighting the Evil Snowman and only attack when his face is covered, unless you can easily dodge.

The Evil Snowman boss can deal a decent amount of damage. Be careful when fighting the Evil Snowman and only attack when his face is covered, unless you can easily dodge.

When a gift box is collected, it has a rare chance to spawn a mini-boss. This 980-1k HP mini-boss takes the appearance of a snowman and is as larger than several Tier 5 creatures. This boss cannot move on its own and remains immobile, but can be pushed or launched into the air if a flying creature goes underneath the boss and takes flight by jumping. This mini-boss has several attack patterns, including:

  • Attack Mode: During this phase, the boss will attack players by shooting fireballs at them. When players attack the boss in this phase, they deal reduced damage.
    • Spread Attack: The boss aims at one player within its vicinity and fires a spread of fireballs in their direction. The area(s) in which the boss is aiming is marked by multiple red spheres, allowing players the opportunity to dodge.
    • Focused Attack: The boss aims to a single player and fires multiple fireballs at random directions around the boss, which after a few seconds will explode and home in on the target's position at the time the attack started. The area in which the boss is aiming is marked by a single red sphere.
    • NOTE: Spread attacks and Focused attacks are chosen independently for each player, meaning that there could be multiple spread attacks and focused attacks at the same time.
  • Weak Mode: Upon entering this phase, the boss will stop attacking and cross its arms in a defensive position. During this phase, players will deal increased damage to the boss (from 5 damage to 40), making this the best time to attack.

Upon defeating the boss, all players that inflicted at least 100 damage will receive around Bell 100 bells, but the range can vary substantially so you actually get less or more, approximately from 90 to Bell 115 bells.

Notes

Three mini-bosses spawned in the same area

Three mini-bosses spawned in the same area

  • Multiple mini-bosses can spawn at a time.
  • Mini-bosses can spawn underwater (this depends on if a player finds a present that has spawned underwater)
  • Special abilities, such as breaths or area attacks, do not work on the mini-boss.
  • Mini-bosses stay spawned until they are killed or a specific timer (around 4 cycles of attacking-recovering) runs out.
  • Mini-bosses have a physical hitbox, meaning that if a player were to collide with the boss, it would be as if they were colliding with a movable object with a high mass (acting most times, but not always, as a wall). Having collisions on means that the boss can behave weirdly when pushed around or falling.
    • The most notorious example of this are 'invisible' bosses. These occur when a boss has been flung into the air due to a player, usually fliers, pushing the boss up from underneath. The boss will eventually fall back down, but there are some instances where the boss will never return, or at least take a very long time doing so. One can tell if a boss has been made 'invisible' based on if fireballs still spawn in the area where the boss was, since the fireball 'spawner' does not follow the boss's body.
  • It should be noted that the boss has an attack pattern that can be used to the player's advantage. The boss will strike using either focused or spread attacks three times before going into its weak mode, and the window is typically long enough for the player to attack 10 times without pausing. It should also be noted that if one goes out of the range of the boss's attacks, then the number of attacks left until it reaches weak mode (3) will reset.

Christmas Store

The Christmas Store is accessed by navigating to the Main Menu and clicking on the Bell bells event currency box next to the Shoom Shoom currency box on the top left. This opens the Christmas Store and the first tab to appear is the Bells tab, which presents players with the option to buy bells with Robux Robux.

The store is split into 3 tabs:

  • The Bells tab for players to buy bells with Robux Robux.

Trivia

  • The placeholder message displayed for the Bells tab while the player is loading into the game is: "UrLoading".
  • On the unscrambling mini-game, it is possible for the game to give you a name that has already been unscrambled. This occurs more often with creatures with short names, such as the Ani, Ura, Pero, etc. or those with repeated letters, where the scrambler moved two letters of the same type so in the end it's like nothing was done (ex.: Kyiki).
  • On the creature trivia mini-game, it is possible to find a placeholder for an answer: "AnswerChoice". This occurs on the Sleirnok question possibly due to it having bleed, bleed defense, breath and defensive poison. This question no matter what you reply, it'll say you selected the incorrect answer, being the "Correct Answer: None". Also, this question doesn't have a tier, meaning it'll forever stay there until you reply.
  • Upon release of Part 2, Varskela briefly cost Bell 7,000 Bells and was later reduced to Bell 5,000 Bells. However, some servers may display the cost as 7,000 Bells for Varskela if the server is outdated. To fix this, simply join servers until you find it displayed as 5,000 Bells.
