The Tornir is a Tier 4 land carnivore. The species is available in the Rotation Store as an Epic creature for 11,500 Shooms. The trial version is available in the Trial Creatures Shop for

Description
“ | Once a peaceful herbivorous species, Tornir are now mindless carnivores overcome by a parasitic fungus that slowly turns them into trees as they age. When a Tornir dies, its corpse slowly becomes an entire tree, hollow and with no leaves. Forests of these haunting trees have been seen, leading some to speculate that Tornir seek this location if they know they are dying. | „ |
~ In-game Description |
Behavior
- Female Tornir use their small claws on their torso to carry large clutches of eggs and moss for nests. Spores from their body will infect the eggs early on, but signs of infection will only start once the creature is much older.
- Males use their small claws on their torso for carrying large prey and materials for dens.
Artist Headcanon
- For centuries, Tornir have been in an evolutionary arms race against themselves, trying to evolve to get rid of the fungus while also evolving to make sure it doesn't get overwhelmed by the fungi's evolution as well.
- They frequently grow and release spores from their fluff by shaking around and causing a large spore cloud. These spores, coming from Tornir's parasitic fungus, then coat the surrounding environment and any unlucky creature in the area, causing many health issues, and for weaker animals, death.
- If a Tornir breaks one of its horns or loses any limbs, a weaker, wooden version will grow back in its place.
- Tornir is related to Akorbik in some way.
Appearance
The Tornir is a decently sized creature with anatomy that closely resembles that of a beetle. Its body is made up of a smooth, wood-like material, and several yellow-brown filaments protrude from its tail and horns, appearing similar to the kinds of growths that would be expected to be seen on a tree or a log. A few sticks branch off from its tail and underbelly, each of which in turn have little leaves and markings originating from them. The Tornir is bipedal, and it controls itself with its two stump-like legs. The Tornir's body is also decorated with various markings, which match the shades present on the various growths around its form.
Males
Males have small, spikey bumps on the tips of their horns.
Females
Females have a group of four feather-like spikes on their backs, by the base of their tails.
Abilities
Main Article: Creature Abilities
This section is intended to list and describe the abilities of the Tornir. (editor list)
- Bleed Block/Block Bleed is a passive ability that grants the creature resistance to getting bleed status from melee attacks at the very least, and every other source at most. Recode's equivalent of bleed defense; it is percentage based, e.g. if an attacker deals 5 bleed per hit and the receiver has 60% bleed defense, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 bleed.
- If a creature's Block Bleed is 100%, then they are immune to Bleed inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages, that is, a creature with 100% Block Bleed will have some fraction of bleed defense while growing, being such fraction bigger as it grows.
- A negative value in-game may indicate an extra vulnerability to the status effect this ability is supposed to protect from.
- Block Disease/Disease Block is a passive ability that blocks a percentage oncoming disease status. Like all status resistances, it scales with age; a creature only reaches its maximum resistance at age 100. If a creature has a Block Disease of 100%, it is immune at age 100, and a negative value indicates that a creature receives additional disease at that percentage.
- Frostbite Block/Block Frostbite is a passive ability that grants the creature resistance to getting frostbite status from melee attacks at the very least, and every other source at most. It is percentage based, e.g. if an attacker deals 5 frostbite per hit and the receiver has 60% block frostbite, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 frostbite.
- Charge (Throw) or Throw Charge is a specific type of Charge that launches the target upwards and inflicts two Broken Legs Status on the victim. It has a 5-second windup and cooldown.
- Defensive Disease is a passive ability, where a creature defensively inflicts a specific amount of melee Disease status on an attacker upon getting bitten.
- Defensive Poison/Melee Toxin is a passive ability that makes a creature toxic by melee - that is, being bitten by another creature will cause the attacker to receive Poison Status, as much as the bitten creature has labeled on their stats and affected by modifiers such as some plushies or resistances. Stacks with itself.
- Injury Attack is an ability that offensively deals injury status when biting. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.
- Iron Stomach is a passive ability which allows the user to eat rotten meat without getting negative ailments from it - preventing getting the Sickly Status.
- Plague Breath is an active ability using the breath control (C on PC or
on Mobile) that is a type of Elemental Breath that inflicts 0.5 DPS (0.25% PER HIT). It has a Capacity of 5, a Regen Rate of 2, a Range of 180 studs, and a Critical chance of 25%. It can also inflict the Disease Status ailment (Probability = 100%, STACKS set to 1).
- Poison Area/Area Poison is an active ability which upon activation inflicts 5 stacks (15 seconds) of the Poison Status to all nearby creatures within 100 studs with a 90 second cooldown.
- Tail Whip/Secondary melee attack is a special active ability which grants another melee attack, usually from behind (thus, Tail Whip), which is activated according to where the camera is facing. Code-wise it has a secondary damage stat, which allows main and secondary melee attacks to deal different base damage. No offensive status effects are given from this secondary attack, and it is not boosted by most effects, except eldering.
- Wing Shredder is a passive ability that allows a creature to offensively deal Shredded Wings status to a creature they bite, with an amount specific of the user creature.

Trivia
- Concept by CatasticalCalamity.
- Inspired by atlas beetles, other tri-horned beetle species, some types of "zombie fungus" that take over bugs, and trees, similar to the real life fungus, Cordyceps.
- Tornir's old design is in the middle of the timeline between its herbivorous (fungus-free) concept, and its current version.
