The Starknol is a Tier 4 semi-aquatic herbivore. The species is available in the Mecha Explorer Gacha. The trial version is available in the Trial Creatures Shop for 150♂/1500♀ Shooms.
Description
“ | Starknol often travel in herds of 3-4 and are quite docile. Their bodies produce steam with rejuvenating properties. Their long tails can allow them to swim in the water but despite this they’re primarily land creatures. | „ |
~ In-game Description |
Behavior
- Starknol form herds of three to four. They are often seen healing other creatures.
Artist Headcanon
- Starknol are made of water and can merge into surrounding water in order to swim.
- The water Starknols are made of is fully pure, and when turned into steam it can heal surrounding creatures.
- A baby Starknol starts out as a shapeshifting puddle with an armored mouth. As it grows, it gains more armor and eventually takes the shape of its adult form.
Appearance
The Starknol is a quadrupedal creature with a long bulbous tail adorned with spikes and plate-like metallic armour. Lore-wise, it could be understood that all the bulbous parts (the tail, forelimbs, neck) are composed of water separated from the environment by a translucid membrane on their tail, forelimbs, throat and sides of the torso; and by multiple sets of metal-like armour everywhere else. Fumes can be seen steaming from the exhaust pipes seen at the lower base of their tail (three pairs) and top of their head (one pair). Gear-like patterns and protrusions can be seen on their shoulders and back. Their back limbs are smaller than their front limbs and end in three ungulate-like toes/nails/hoofs, instead of the four fingers from the forelimbs which are in a similar position to those seen in gorillas while walking or some prehistoric sloths. Their head presents a pointed snout and two pair of eyes below the head exhaust pipes and above a pair of elongated jaws lacking any teeth.
Males
Males present three small spikes at the top of their tails, on top of the three nearest plates closest to the tail base.
Females
Females have a set of three pairs of spikes at the base of their tail, on top of their back legs.
Abilities
Main Article: Creature Abilities
This section is intended to list and describe the abilities of the Starknol. (editor list)
- Agile Swimmer is passive ability, similar to legacy's Streamlined, which buffs the player when submerged underwater for more than a second, receiving the following buffs:
- 100% more stamina regeneration
- 50% more total stamina
- 75% more walk speed
- 75% more sprint speed
- 15% more oxygen, if the creature is a semi-aquatic; 180% more oxygen otherwise.
- Additionally, like with legacy Streamlined, a glider semi-aquatic (and an aqua-glider) can abuse the extra stamina to increase the number of glide flaps it can perform from the water boosted, since until they touch the ground or stop gliding, the boosted stamina amount will remain.
- Note that since most of these are multipliers, creature incapable of naturally recovering stamina underwater do not get any stamina regeneration boost (as any fraction of 0 is still 0).
- Bleed Block/Block Bleed is a passive ability that grants the creature resistance to getting bleed status from melee attacks at the very least, and every other source at most. Recode's equivalent of bleed defense; it is percentage based, e.g. if an attacker deals 5 bleed per hit and the receiver has 60% bleed defense, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 bleed.
- If a creature's Block Bleed is 100%, then they are immune to Bleed inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages, that is, a creature with 100% Block Bleed will have some fraction of bleed defense while growing, being such fraction bigger as it grows.
- A negative value in-game may indicate an extra vulnerability to the status effect this ability is supposed to protect from.
- Heal Aura is a toggleable AOE active ability that performs a total % HP healing to creatures in a 175 stud range from the user, excluding the user itself. The raw amount of HP healed is different according to the creature. Has a 5-second cooldown between two toggle-ons, but can be deactivated at anytime, like invisibility. While active, the user emmits a big green pharmacy sign that fades in an out, and all nearby creatures will have positive healing numbers, which can be used to spot invisible creatures.
- Healing Pulse is an active ability which applies a small hit-point healing buff, as well as the Healing Ailment to creatures around the user and itself for 12 seconds. When used, a spark explosion effect appears from the user. Has a 90 second cooldown.
- Pack Healer is a pack-oriented passive ability. This passive ability allows you to boost the HP regen of your fellow packmates . It is because of this that creatures who have this ability are considered "Support creatures".
- Shock Area is an active ability that upon use inflicts to nearby creatures Shock Status, a very short stack (less than a real-life second) of Broken Legs Status and 60% flight speed reduction for 30 seconds. Has a 90 second cooldown.
- Water Breath is an active ability using the breath control (C on PC or
on Mobile) that is a type of Elemental Breath that inflicts 2 DPS (1% PER HIT). It has a Capacity of 10, a Regen Rate of 2.5, a Range of 220 studs, and has a Critical chance of 10%. It can also inflict the BlurredVision ailment (Probability = 60%, no stacking).

Trivia
- Concept by JaxonBirb in the Creatures of Sonaria Discord.
- Inspired by “Water, steampunk, divine beasts, and its old concept”.
- Legacy Starknol has blue blood.
- Due to this, when killed, the Starknol drops a blue carcass.
- This is an actual color in some Earth creatures, from those that use hemocyanin, a blue oxygen carrier that replaces hemoglobin in some invertebrates blood.
- Legacy Starknol can more or less safely traverse through lava (idle animation, sitting, laying down, aggro, cower, hiding scent, and walking on a straight line over lava don't hurt the Starknol), as seen here.
