Creatures of Sonaria Wiki

Shrines are special map locations that portray certain lore-significant creatures as stone statues of more or less shape and form. These statues have neon accents in various colors and feature a large plaque near the statue with one of the lore creature's symbols and name in the Sonarian font on the front. These plaques are where players can leave donations of food units in exchange for various rewards. Once enough food has been donated to fill a specific shrine's requirements, the player receives a reward and the shrine that was donated to becomes locked for 30 minutes. Each shrine has an individual 30-minute cooldown, so players do not have to wait for the cooldown to complete to donate to a different shrine. Donation progress does not reset between servers.

Each shrine requires a different amount of food units to be donated to receive a reward. As a general rule, the easier the shrine is to access, the more food it requires. Some of the rewards of each shrine depend on how much food was donated. Usually, the more food a shrine requires, the longer the various boosts and effects last.

As of Patch 67.0, the amount of food donated is affected by seasonal boosts. The amount of food units a player can donate may fluctuate with the seasons; A chunk of meat may be worth 104 (1.15x) units in summer, but then become worth 72 (0.80x) units in winter. Rotten food may also be donated at no penalty.

Some events may temporarily modify or add features into certain shrines. On that case, those extra features will be described on the respective event page. Currently only the Lore Event 2024 has performed such actions on a temporary basis, but the buildup to the creation of the Shadow Isle biome has seemingly permanently left certain modifications.

Shrine Artifacts, like all Artifact Shop items, have been affected by the maximum reward capacity of 20 from Patch 112.0 onwards, afterwards they will no longer drop from shrines, albeit those who had more than 20 will keep them but be unable to gain more until there are less than 20.

Shadow Shrines[]

Shadow Shrines' Location

Shadow Shrines are the least widespread type of shrine, portraying an obscure lore entity as a stone and crystalline tree. This tree statue has neon accents in violet colors on certain eyes sprouting from the trunk and certain crystal "leaves". Unlike Warden Shrines, its plaque is bigger than most, but upside-down, shredded into certain fragments, and emmits a red aura.

As the only known case of Shadow Shrine being the Shadow Isle's Shrine, and due to that plaque saying "QHUALHUL", it is not known if the Shrine represents a broken Warden (as, a part of Qhualhul corrupted by something), an anti-Warden (as a being that opposes Qhualhul in particular), anything loosely related with Boreal (i.e. shattered Rebus) or if it is a mere placeholder.

The locations of every Shadow Shrine can be also be found here.

Shadow Isle's Shrine[]

The Shadow Isle's Shrine is found at the center of the Shadow Isle. It costs 2500 food units to complete a donation. Its plaque says "QHUALHUL".

Due to the environment and rare presence of creatures there but the presence of three natural carcass spawns, the best, fastest guaranteed path to complete a donation is to grab a creature capable of consuming meat (preferably a creature capable of flight or glide with iron stomach or that does not need to drink water, too) and grab chunks to deplete each one sequentially - that is, you go for a natural carcass, grab a chunk, deliver it to the shrine, and repeat on that single natural carcass until it is nearly depleted at 5 or less food (then you eat it); to then go to the next node carcass and repat the procedure, and then once that one is depleted, swap to the next one; which guarantess a constant stream of meat chunks without needing to wait for all of them to replenish. This method also allows up to 3 creatures to comfortably get food without needing to wait, more if creatures are slow.

AntiQhualhulPlate

Unknown Entity's plaque. The text reads "Qhualhul", same as Boreal Warden's.

Warden Shrines[]

Warden Shrines' Location

Warden Shrines are the most widespread type of shrine, portraying the game's Wardens as stone statues. These statues have neon accents in various colors and feature a large intact plaque near the statue with the Wardens' symbols and name in the Sonarian font on the front.

Shrines received a relatively permanent change since the Lore Event 2024 released, which was granting the option to speak to the shrine to obtain certain quotes that grant some lore scraps to the casual wanderer. This function was a foreshadowing of the release of the Shadow Isle Shadow Shrines.

The locations of every Warden Shrine can be also be found here.

Angelic Warden's Shrine[]

The Angelic Warden's shrine is found hidden behind a false wall within the Jungle. It costs 150 food units to complete a donation.

Due to its location, certain creatures with tall hitboxes cannot enter, amongst them, ironically, an adult Angelic Warden. Thus, only creatures shorter than an adult Angelic Warden may be able to pass, except maybe certain fliers if performing some tilting, or aquatics trying to interact beneath the map.

AngelicWardenPlaque

Angelic Warden's plaque. The text reads "Serphelius".

Rewards list:

  • Cooldown: 30 minutes.
  • Interaction messages:
    • "A change in the wind, a rumble in the earth...".
    • "I shed a tear for those lost... countless sacrifices".
    • "Something lurks amongst the glowing violet".

Ardor Warden's Shrine[]

The Ardor Warden's shrine is found at the back of Swamp Hill. It costs 2,500 food units to complete a donation.

Due to its location, all creatures have access to it, including Aquatics to a degree if they dart from the Surrounding Sea to the crevice udnerneath the Shrine. It is for this reason that this shrine's donation cost is so high.

ArdorWardenPlaque

Ardor Warden's plaque. The text reads "Zohutek".

Rewards list:

Boreal Warden's Shrine[]

The Boreal Warden's shrine is found inside of a cave within the Mountains. It costs 750 food units to complete a donation.

Due to its location, certain high-end tier big creatures or tall creatures may not be able to enter, albeit amonst those whose shrine is located beyond a tunnel, it is the least limiting. Aquatics can interact with it from beneath the map, but it is extremely difficult to aim and time correctly to deliver an offering from there.

BorealWardenPlaque

Boreal Warden's plaque. The text reads "Qhualhul".

Rewards list:

Eigion Warden's Shrine[]

The Eigion Warden's shrine is found hidden beneath a false floor deep underwater within the Rocky Drop. It costs 1,000 food units to complete a donation.

Due to its location, only aquatics and semi-aquatics are guaranteed to be able to give offerings to this shrine without being a one-way trip. Certain creatures with abilities like Diver, Escape Area, Burrower, Ambush (or any other ability that allows fast travel underwater or to skip certain harsh areas) + high oxygen levels may be able to allow other creatures to reach the shrine and return to a place where they can survive, on a case-by-case basis.

EigionWardenPlaque

Eigion Warden's plaque. The text reads "Malveathian".

Rewards list:

Garra Warden's Shrine[]

The Garra Warden's shrine is found inside the Volcano on Volcano Island. It costs 250 food units to complete a donation.

Due to its location, the best creatures to reach the shrine are those with flight or glide, creatures with climb, or creatures with something that grants burn resistance to lava.

GarraWardenPlaque

Garra Warden's plaque. The text reads "Mors'vuhk".

Rewards list:

Hellion Warden's Shrine[]

The Hellion Warden's shrine is found hidden behind narrow tunnels in between the Desert and Mesa. It costs 50 food units to complete a donation, being the cheapest shrine to donate to.

Due to its location, only very small/short creatures can access the shrine, or certain aquatics underneath the map.

HellionWardenPlaque

Hellion Warden's plaque. The text reads "Nukzeh".

Rewards list:

Novus Warden's Shrine[]

The Novus Warden's shrine is found at the very top of the floating islands above the Rocky Drop and Coral Reef. It costs 1,500 food units to complete a donation.

Due to its location, the best creatures to reach it are fliers or gliders, with creatures with an extremely potent dart being in second place.

NovusWardenPlaque

Novus Warden's Plaque. The text reads "Omnibus".

Rewards list:

Verdant Warden's Shrine[]

The Verdant Warden's shrine is found near the watering hole in Flower Cove. It costs 500 food units to complete a donation.

Thanks to its location, it is easily accesible to all creatures except strict aquatics.

VerdantWardenPlaque

Verdant Warden's plaque. The text reads "ausFarh". [1]

Rewards list:

Boosts[]

The player may receive one of a number of different timed Boosts from donating to the Warden Shrines. The amount of time that the received boost lasts for is dependent on which shrine the player received it from. Higher costing donations give longer boosts. Active and paused boosts are shown at the bottom left of the screen.

When receiving a boost of the same type as one of the player's active boosts, the time of the recieved boost will add onto the active one, extending it.

Growth Boost[]

The Growth Boost accelerates a creature's growth by 15%. This boost can also be acquired from a variety of different places, such as the Mythic season, the Warden's Nebula weather effect, and the Aerix plushie. These other ways of acquiring the growth boost may not provide the same acceleration rate as the one received from the shrines.

GrowthBoost

Growth Boost icon

This boost is tied to the creature slot that the player received it on and cannot be transferred between different creature slots. If a player clears this slot, either when dying or by deleting the creature in that slot from the menu, then the boost can be utilized on a new creature made in that slot. When a player spawns in as a creature in a different slot, the boost will appear as "paused".

Mutation Chance Boost[]

The Mutation Chance Boost increases the chance of a mutation to appear when its specific parameters are met (i.e. When reaching age 67, there is a higher chance to receive a growth-related mutation). This boost applies to both nesting-related and growth-related mutations.

MutationBoost

Mutation Chance Boost icon

Unlike the other boosts, the Mutation Chance Boost applies to all creature slots, not just the one that the player acquired the boost on. This means that the player can swap between creatures freely to utilize the boost on whatever creature slot they'd like to. When the timer runs out, the boost runs out for all creature slots.

Survival Boost[]

The Survival Boost decreases both thirst and hunger drain by 20% each. This boost can also be acquired from death rewards.

When a player spawns in as a creature in a different slot, the boost will appear as "paused".

Token Sniffing Boost[]

Made to replace the Springram plushie's previous effect in Legacy, the Token Sniffing Boost allows the player to smell and locate explorer tokens that spawn around the map. Unlike the Springram plushie however, this boost only lasts a limited amount of time before it expires.

TokenSniffingBoost

Token Sniffing Boost icon

This boost is tied to the creature slot that the player received it on, but can be transferred between different slots. If a player clears this slot, either when dying or by deleting the creature in that slot from the menu, then the boost can be utilized on a new creature made in that slot. When a player spawns in as a creature in a different slot, the boost will appear as "paused". Sometimes, specially if a creature dies and waits the alloted sniff boost time or leaves during a fog, then restart the slot or change to another, the boost may end up working indefinetely until you leave.

From experimental testing, it has been checked that before the Artifact Shop token cap update, sniffing around 0.5-1.5 seconds before giving the final offer to complete the warden shrine food amount almost always guaranteed to give this token sniffing boost if it was not given already, at least for the Angelic and Hellion Warden Shrines.

Bugs/issues[]

  • When swapping servers while a shrine's cooldown is active, the timer may become invisible, so the player cannot see the time remaining on cooldown.
  • Taller species may not be able to interact with the donation prompt unless they do specific camera movements and/or poses due to the height difference on their interact hitboxes.
  • "Paused" boosts can become un-paused if the player gains another boost of that same type.
  • When swapping between creature slots quickly, boosts may become stuck as "paused" even when playing as the slot that should be able to use them. Leaving and rejoining the server fixes this.
  • When receiving a boost that should add onto a currently active one, the boost may fail to apply. Leaving and rejoining the server fixes this.

Notes[]

  1. Verdant Warden's plaque has its name backwards. The plaque reads "ausFarh", but should say "Farhaus".
