Description
| “ | This beast is only thought to be a legend, a monster that is used in stories to discipline the little ones. It is said that they snatch away creatures in their sleep, and if they wake up, the sight of a Shararook is so terrifying they are paralyzed from fear. It uses its victims expressions for its twisted masks. | „ |
| ~ In-game Description |
Behavior
- Shararooks are very intelligent nocturnal predators that are capable of crafting, architecture, and the creation of different art forms. ㅤ
- In Shararook society, masks play a vital role, as it is something deeply ingrained in their culture. Every Shararook mask is handcrafted by its owner. Shararooks tend to use their prey as inspiration for masks.
- Teen Shararook gain their mask through a maturing ritual, which requires them to kill their first prey.
- Shararook live in colonies with social hierarchies. These colonies are always in hidden, dark places.
- Shararook are active outside during the night; they hunt either solitarily or in small groups. Their preferred hunting method is rather peculiar, as they target sleeping creatures, though some Shararook enjoy teasing and scaring their prey.
- Juvenile Shararook are called spawns, and a group is called a coven.
Artist Headcanon
- Shararooks have a rather close connection to the occult and magic, which explains their near supernatural abilities.
- Shararooks preferably locate their colonies in underground tunnel systems.
- Their masks do not correlate to their gender.
- Shararook is a relative of Kriprik.
- Shararooks rarely interact with Kripriks in person, but they do have quite a complicated cultural view of them: while they do not see them as their equals, they do respect them more than other creatures and refuse to hunt them, mainly due to their ancient blood tie to Shararooks. Kripriks sometimes appear in Shararook folklore and mythos as well, mainly as mystics or mysterious helpers.
- These two creatures have the capability of forming positive relations through trade and other friendly interactions, due to both of the species being sapient. Though because both of them are elusive in nature, this is unlikely to happen.
- Shararook have their own language and generally they don't speak Sonarian - mainly due to Shararook colonies keeping to themselves and not interacting much with Sonarian speakers. But due to their intelligence they can make out what certain words mean, and can attempt to communicate. They can learn the language fully, but it's very rare to find a fluent speaker.
- They're incredible vocal mimics, much like corvids (crows, magpies) and certain other birds (and even humans to some extent). They can mimic sounds pretty accurately, which includes voices and calls of other creatures. This ability greatly aids them in both language acquisition and hunting.
- Shararooks can be found in any region except particularly hot or tropical ones, like the mesa, desert, volcano or flower cove. This is because their thick fur can cause them to overheat easily. They prefer cold and temperate regions — any forest, meadow, or mountain will suit them.
- Despite this some colonies have found themselves in the jungles of Sonaria. Though they are quite rare and have some specific adaptations to fare better in the humid, hotter weather - like shorter fur.
Appearance
The Shararook appears as a long, quadrupedal creature with lots of dark colors on its body. Its head has rows of various teeth, and is guarded by a terrifying mask with feathers jutting out of the sides. Its front legs are larger than the back legs, and have opposable thumbs. Parts of its neck and lower body have multiple spots that run down to the tail. The back of the Shararook is furry and covered in masks of altering sizes. On its tail are 3 more masks that alter in size, with some bits of skin being exposed, and its tail tip is covered in fur.
Males
Males have a 3-eyed mask with a large, orange-lipped mouth bearing large teeth in a grinning expression. The larger eyes have extra blue sections that resemble large eyelashes. The sides of its mask have what appear to be rosy red cheeks.
Females
Females bear a 6-eyed mask that appear to be crying with a differently shaped mouth, full of darker colored teeth. On its sides are 6 growths similar to horns, and the middle has a blue circle that splits in half.
Abilities
Main Article: Creature Abilities
This section is intended to list and describe the abilities of the Shararook. (editor list)
- Bleed Attack is a passive ability, where the user inflicts a specific amount of bleed status on a creature with every bite, excluding with breath/ranged abilities or reflecting abilities. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.
- Bleed Block/Block Bleed is a percentage based passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting bleed status from melee attacks at minimum. If an attacker deals 5 bleed per hit and the receiver has 60% Block Bleed, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 bleed. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. If a creature's Block Bleed is 100%, then they are immune to Bleed inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. If a creature's Block Bleed is negative, it may indicate an extra vulnerability to the status effect.
- Burn Block/Block Burn is a passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting burn status from melee attacks. It is percentage based. For example, if an attacker deals 5 burn per hit and the receiver has 60% block burn, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 burn.
- If a creature's block burn is 100%, then they are immune to Burn inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. A negative value may indicate that the creature is vulnerable to burn effects.
- Block Poison/Poison Block is a passive ability that grants resistance to poison status once they reach max age (100). Like many other block defenses, it works by blocking a percentage of the ailment received. If a creature's Poison Block is 100%, then they are immune to those stats (and will be healed instantly if they are somehow applied) once they reach age 100.
- Cause Fear is an active ability and Recode's equivalent of Fear. It gives all creatures around the user 10 stacks (30 seconds) of Scared Status effect, and has a cooldown of 120 seconds (2 minutes)..
- Climber is a passive ability that allows the user to walk on walls and ceilings. To detach from a wall, press the Space on PC. On Mobile, press the dedicated Detach button, or, if the creature has Jump, press the jump button.
- Cursed Sigil is an active ability that offensively inflicts the Bad Omen status on anyone in a 100 stud radius centered on the user. It has an 85 second cooldown after use.
- Drowsy Area is an active ability that gives those within its area of effect the drowsy status, slowing their bite speed and severely slowing them down in movement and turn speed. Has a 60 second cooldown.
- First Strike is a passive ability that grants the user increased damage while they are above 75% health. The damage increase is depends on the creature and is reflected in its stat menu.
- Invisibility is an active ability that makes the user invisible to other players when toggled. Invisibility allows the user to walk and swim cloaked as long as they don't bite, use any active ability, sprint, ambush, or jump/fly/glide. While active it does not hide the creature from being spotted by scent. Additionally, invisibility has a 30 second cooldown after being activated; however, deactivating the ability does not modify the cooldown.
- Iron Stomach is a passive ability that allows the user to eat rotten meat without getting negative ailments from it--preventing them from getting the Sickly Status.
- Jump is an active ability pertaining to the special control Jump/Dart/Glide/Flight that allows a creature to jump on land. Creatures can turn during jumping. If a semi-aquatic creature with Jump starts swimming and tries to jump, they will Dart instead.
Jump has an associated speed boost, stamina consumption, and age limit for every creature. Beyond that age limit, a creature will be unable to jump - that field is commonly used for creatures which will develop Glide or Flight on a later growth stage.
- If a creature's infobox on the wiki only has a jump age stat, that means that the creature has actually jump 0 (no jump) and on the stage that jump supersedes Glide or Flight, it is equivalent as to being unable to jump nor flight nor glide.
- Keen Observer is a passive ability that allows the user to see the health, equipped Plushies, Traits, and status effects of nearby creatures with a green HP bar over them. Temporary status buffs are set on green, temporary status debuffs on red, traits now present their correct indicator and plushies are marked with their plushie icon.
- Poison Attack is a passive ability that makes the user deal Poison Status to another creature upon biting them. It stacks with itself. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.
