Behavior

🧠 Creature Behavior

This section is intended to describe Owa'Stryrus' headcanon behavior for role-play and general gameplay behavior, or behavior that is realistically expected of this creature, as confirmed by the creature's creator. It does not conflict with official lore, nor is actual lore canon, but still supersedes any behavior headcanon not stemming from the creator. For more information, see here.

• Owa'Stryrus are very loyal. Once they've found their true first love, there will be not be a second lover, no matter the gender.
  • Upon finding their mates, both Owa'Stryrus will exchange one of their quills. They must then take very good care of it. The two Owa'Stryrus will travel together and watch how another treats their given quill for a moon. Each partner's satisfaction depends on the condition of those quills. This doesn't mean that an Owa'Stryrus that has badly damaged a quill will be immediately rejected; one could accidentally damage another's quill, which is acceptable as long as they show signs of regret and try their best to fix it. If either party intentionally damages another's quill, that Owa'Stryrus will be seen as a careless, indifferent being and will be left alone with the broken quill to be shamed for their lifetime.
  • When a moon has passed and both agree to forever be lovers, they will use their exchanged quill to draw patterns on each other's bodies, and those patterns will be glimmering.
• When an Owa'Stryrus dies, the alpha Owa'Stryrus will engrave the dead individual's rune onto an ancient stone. The remains will be absorbed into that stone, causing the rune to emit an aura. The emitted aura indicates that the deceased one has not gone away, but had become one with Sonaria — the land, sea, and sky — returned into part of nature. These energies can also power up other Owa'Stryrus, allowing them to see certain memories of the deceased.
  • The rune stones of the deceased will be placed in various locations across Sonaria. Where exactly they are placed is based on the individual Owa'Stryrus's last wish before death.
  • For a pair of lover Owa'Stryrus, if either of them dies, the remaining individual will keep the rune stone of their mate for the rest of their lives. They will never let anything happen to it, relentlessly waiting every day for their mates to return, even though it could never happen and they must stay with the unbearable pain of grief for the rest of their lives. Some Owa'Stryrus couldn't endure such pain and died after their partners right away, so they could be engraved onto the same stone as their loved one.
• If any Owa'Stryrus were to turn their back on their colony, they would get their quills ripped off and be banished forever. They get marked with an ‘outcast symbol’ painted in Stryrus Ink on their heads to seal their powers, and their names will be on the Dark Scroll.
• Gender in Owa'Stryrus is not classified by appearance. An Owa'Stryrus's appearance only indicates whether or not an individual is an apprentice or a senior or higher; they can be any gender independent of their appearance.
  • Apprentice Owa'Stryrus possess a rune on their heads that will glow brighter every time they've completed their trials until promoted to senior in their hierarchy.
    • In order to receive their promotion, one must be approved by the alpha Owa'Stryrus.
• Cleaning the Warden Shrines is a common punishment for misbehaving apprentices.
• For some reason, their main source of food is shrimp. No one knows how these two organisms are related.

• If any Owa'Stryrus were to turn their back on their colony, they would get their quills ripped off and be banished forever. They get marked with an ‘outcast symbol’ painted in Stryrus Ink on their heads to seal their powers, and their names will be on the Dark Scroll.
  • Stryrus Ink is a special type of ink created by the group of Owa'Stryrus called "The Translators", from Owa'Stryrus blood. This ink is not harmful to Owa'Stryrus but is poisonous to other creatures.
• Dark scroll, a scroll that contains the list of all banished Owa'Stryrus which are written in blood, the same blood used to draw on Owa'Stryrus's body to seal their powers.
• Gender in Owa'Stryrus is not classified by appearance. An Owa'Stryrus's appearance only indicates whether or not an individual is an apprentice or a senior or higher; they can be any gender independent of their appearance.
  • Apprentice Owa'Stryrus possess a magical rune on their heads that will glow brighter every time they've completed their trials. Once they have proven themselves and passed all of the trials, they will be promoted to senior. The symbol on their heads will transform into a magical feather that will empower their quills, allowing them to write on ancient scrolls — a letter that will be delivered between the Wardens.
    • In order to receive their promotion, one must be approved by the alpha Owa'Stryrus.
• One of the senior Owa'Stryrus's primary duties is to deliver messages from one Warden to another, maintaining their awareness of the matters of Sonaria and allowing them to communicate with one another from a distance.
• In order to receive their promotion, one must be approved by the alpha Owa'Stryrus.
• Cleaning the Warden Shrines is a common punishment for misbehaving apprentices.
• There is known to be a pink Owa'Stryrus of unknown origin, which is believed to be the protector of all its species. Despite its harmless appearance, it is known as an extremely aggressive and headstrong being, but is protective of its own kind. Rumor has it that this individual is the mate of the alpha Owa'Stryrus, but there is no evidence to back this claim.
• Owa'Stryrus have a unique method of reproduction, during which two Owa'Stryrus will sign a scroll created by the Wardens themselves. After signing, this scroll will magically transform into a baby Owa'Stryrus.

Appearance

Owa'Stryrus has a feathered body with multiple shades of red, orange, and yellow on it with blue markings on its shoulders. It has an owl-shaped head with blue eyes, a small beak, and maroon ears with two (2) smaller feathers behind them. Owa'Stryrus's legs are unique as the top part has part of its skin remain and the bottom half is comprised of rocks. It has a long tail with feathers at the end of it and two (2) banners with at the start of the tail. The wings are detached from its body, with the spot where they link to the body housing a blue orb in each wing, which are feathered, and have three (3) large runes at each of the tips, each rune having a letter of its name on it.

Males

Males have a circle shape glowing marking on their foreheads with four edges, almost similar to the shape of a diamond.

Females

Females have a single feather with a glowing tip sprouting from the top of their beaks, between their ears.

Abilities

• Bleed Attack is a passive ability, where a creature offensively inflicts a specific amount of melee bleed status on a creature with every bite (not with breath/ranged abilities or reflecting abilities). A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.
• Dazzling Flash is an activated ability that generates a quick, bright, white flash and causes nearby creatures to experience confusion tunnel vision and blurred vision. Has a 70-second cooldown.
• Flight is an active ability pertaining to the special control Jump/Dart/Glide/Flight and inherent to all Fliers and legacy mobility type All-Terrain creatures have this ability. However, due to the fact all-terrain got absorbed into Flier, this means that with purely recode terminology, only fliers have the ability. Creatures with flight ability as dominant cannot jump per se (only with jump superseding flight if jump has a certain jump age value), they instead enter flight or glide mode - however some creatures may also present the jump ability replacing the flight one as the dominant at some point in their live stage. Flying and takeoff both take stamina. If there's not enough stamina, the creature cannot fly. A creature with flight can switch between flight and glide and vice-versa without that switch costing stamina.
• Fortify is an active ability toggled by the regular active abilities buttons and with a 90-second cooldown that wipes pretty much all status effects deemed as negative, except thirst and hunger, plushie-derived and weather effects. However, it may also wipe some beneficial status effects if they present one negative debuff. It also grants a very-short immunity to effects applied shortly after activating this ability, and increases weight by 5% for a short period according to the stack (3, on this case).
• Glide is an active ability pertaining to the special control Jump/Dart/Glide/Flight and inherent to all gliders and glider semi-aquatics have this ability as primary. However, due to the fact glider semi-aquatics got absorbed into Semi-Aquatics, the correct recode terminology would be to say that all Gliders and a few Semi-Aquatics and Aquatics have this ability as primary. Flier (and all-terrain) creatures have this ability as well, but the Jump/Dart/Glide/Flight button is not their primary, but the toggle glide button. Creatures with glide ability cannot jump per se, they instead enter flight or glide mode, unless jump supersedes them via some jump age value. If there's not enough stamina, the creature can hardly glide. Depending on some creature factors like tier and glide stamina regeneration, as well as some environmental conditions, a creature can or cannot regain stamina while gliding.
• Keen Observer is a passive ability that allows the user to see the health of nearby creatures as a green HP bar over them. It also includes the ability to see equipped Plushies and all the Traits and status effects affecting them, albeit not their exact levels or ascension directly. Temporary or status buffs are set on green, temporary status debuffs on red, traits now present their correct indicator and plushies are marked with their plushie icon. These have several advantages, from knowing who to protect, knowing if someone is suffering hypothermia/hunger/dehydration, spotting invisible and scent-hidden creatures, to knowing which target is the weakest/most debuffed and acting in consequence.
• Poison Attack/Melee Venom is a passive ability that makes a creature venomous by melee - that is, biting another creature will cause the victim to receive Poison Status, as much as the attacker has labeled on their stats and affected by modifiers such as some plushies or resistances. Stacks with itself. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.

  • Owa'Stryrus was based on Eurasian owls, scrolls, runes, the Sonarian Font, cats, and shrimp.
• The symbols which appear on Owa'Stryrus' wings are characters from the Sonarian Font. Together, they spell out "owa" in all lowercase. When including the character on its body and rearranging the letters into the correct order, they spell the Polish word "sowa", meaning owl.
  • The Owa'Stryrus is one of two creatures to have sonarian text located on its body, the other being the Golgaroth.
• Modeled by Erythia.
  • A speed modeling video featuring Owa'Stryrus was published to Erythia's YouTube channel on July 6^th, 2023. The video can be viewed here.
• Male Owa'Stryrus, unlike most creatures, display dimorphism before their adult stage. Other creatures which display gender dimorphism in earlier growth stages include (but are not limited to) Verza and Nakamaska.
• Despite having gender dimorphism, Cynderrina did not intend for the Owa'Stryrus's gender to be distinguished by appearance. Instead, these physical differences represent an individual's rank, with the game's male Owa'Stryrus resembling an apprentice, and the female representing a senior or above. Cynderrina states that Owa'Stryrus can be found with any gender, including (listed specifically) transgender, agender, pangender, non-binary, et cetera individuals.
