The Morinus is a Tier 3 land herbivore. The species is available in the Herbivores Gacha (and also should be on the Bleeder Gacha, but due to an oversight it is not). The trial version is available in the Trial Creatures Shop for 25♂/250♀ Shooms.
Description
“ | Big fluffy beasts who live in herds lead by the herd leader, which is a male. Females have smaller horns, chin and no hair on their head, but have longer tusks. | „ |
~ In-game Description |
Behavior
- Morinus are very aggressive protectors of their territories and will attack everything in it, even if the opposing creature is much bigger than them.
- Morinus never leave the cold biomes which they inhabit, as they are susceptible to overheat, making them vulnerable to carnivores.
- They will dig deep holes in the snow for their cubs.
- Groups will form during cold winters to help one another survive. Once the winter ends, these packs dissolve.
- Morinus makes simple goat sounds.
- Morinus can scale any surface.
Appearance
Morinus is a bulky, bovid creature covered in thick fur, sprouting in large tufts from its legs, ears, tail (at the base and at a tuft towards the end), either side of its face, and most notably, its entire neck, which is completely covered in a thick mane. Its head is adorned by several gnarled, twisted horns, the smallest of which form a row of three along its snout. Morinus has two larger pairs on the sides of its skull, the bigger of which are pronged towards the base. Its head also features a long, pointed chin, large cattle-like ears, and two pairs of sharp growths on its upper jaw which resemble huge teeth. Its actual teeth are small and flat, and its eyes have slit, horizontal pupils. Additional spines run down its back and tail, as well as two parallel rows which emerge from its sides. Its tail is short and thin, which contrasts its sturdy body.
Each of Morinus' four legs have four-toed feet. Only three of these digits are weight-bearing and end in pointed, but otherwise blunt hooves. The last inner toe ends with a dew claw, which points downwards on the front feet and upwards on the back. Alongside its fur, much of Morinus' body is also covered in scales, which gives in an appearance reminiscent of a mythological qilin. These scales appear on all of its limbs, as well as its sides and underbelly. By default, the creature is a dark, almost black, navy gray-blue, with white and light gray.
Males
Males have longer horns that resemble those of a deer.
Females
Females do not have any additional features.
Abilities
Main Article: Creature Abilities
This section is intended to list and describe the abilities of the Morinus. (editor list)
- Bleed Block/Block Bleed is a passive ability that grants the creature resistance to getting bleed status from melee attacks at the very least, and every other source at most. Recode's equivalent of bleed defense; it is percentage based, e.g. if an attacker deals 5 bleed per hit and the receiver has 60% bleed defense, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 bleed.
- If a creature's Block Bleed is 100%, then they are immune to Bleed inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages, that is, a creature with 100% Block Bleed will have some fraction of bleed defense while growing, being such fraction bigger as it grows.
- A negative value in-game may indicate an extra vulnerability to the status effect this ability is supposed to protect from.
- Frostbite Block/Block Frostbite is a passive ability that grants the creature resistance to getting frostbite status from melee attacks at the very least, and every other source at most. It is percentage based, e.g. if an attacker deals 5 frostbite per hit and the receiver has 60% block frostbite, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 frostbite.
- Charge (Power) or Power Charge is a specific type of Charge that temporarily increases the user's damage slightly and inflicts Shredded Wings on the victim.
- Defensive Bleed is a passive ability, where a creature defensively inflicts a specific amount of melee bleed status on an attacker upon getting bitten.
- Frostbite touch/Defensive Frostbite is an ability that defensively deals frostbite when bitten.
- Frosty is a passive ability, equivalent to Legacy's Winter Tag, causes the creature with the tag to receive a buff of +25% stamina regeneration, +25% health regeneration, -25% thirst depletion, and -25% hunger depletion during Winter and Famine seasons, and prevents getting hypothermia from blizzards.
- Glacier Breath is an active ability using the breath control (C on PC or
on Mobile) that is a type of Elemental Breath that inflicts 2 DPS (1% PER HIT). It has a Capacity of 10 seconds of firetime before recoil damage, a Regen Rate of 2, a Range of 150 studs, a Critical chance of 35%, a Chain value of 10, and a ChainMaxStacks of 10. It has a maximum chain damage of +1,000%. It can also inflict the following ailments: SLOWED (Probability = 30%, no stacking), and Injury (Probability = 30%, STACKS set to 1).
- Strength In Numbers is a passive ability that confers a creature a 7% stamina regeneration boost and a 1.5% damage boost. This stacks according to how many creatures with the same ability and same species are nearby. If there are no other users of this ability nearby, it won't provide that boost.
Carry-able Creatures
The Can-Carry lists features lists of creatures that Morinus is carried by, can carry (grab), can latch, and can be latched by in RECODE. To see the lists and their toggles to view each, click on the collapsible text to the right of the table below, to Expand or Collapse the list.
Can-Grab ListThis section is intended to list the non-elder fully-grown adult creatures that the non-elder fully-grown Morinus can grab and carry, taking into account if this creature has grab/latch and discounting any other special abilities. The Morinus (a(n) herbivore) is a tier 3 and can carry any creature from any lower tier size.* There is no creature which the Morinus can currently carry
Grabbed-By ListThis section is intended to list the non-elder fully-grown adult creatures that can grab and thus carry a non-elder fully-grown adult Morinus taking into account grab/latch abilities and discounting special abilities. The Morinus (a(n) herbivore) is a tier 3 and can be picked up by any creature with higher tier and the Grab ability, as follows:[Expand] Carry-able by:
Can-Latch ListThis section is intended to list the non-elder fully-grown adult creatures that the non-elder fully-grown Morinus can latch into, but not carry; taking into account latch/grab abilities and discounting any other special ability. The Morinus (a(n) herbivore) is a tier 3 and can latch onto any higher tier size.* There is no creature which the Morinus can currently grab but not carry
Latched-By ListThis section is intended to list the non-elder fully-grown adult creatures that can grab but not carry (latch onto) the non-elder fully-grown Morinus discounting special abilities. Trivia
- Concept by Laura! on the Creatures of Sonaria Discord.
- Modeled by Erythia.
- Morinus was originally a Tier 2 creature, but was soon changed to a Tier 3.
- Morinus was once a semi-aquatic creature, but was later changed to become a land creature. This was originally an accident. Nevertheless, even as a terrestrial creature, and until the 3rd week of Winter Event 2021-2022, their stamina didn't regenerate but never dropped underwater, allowing for extended periods of submarine exploring. However, like Minawii-type semiaquatics, if you remained too long underwater without touching the water surface (around 12 minutes in this case), you would get a "You need to breathe! Go to the surface" message and started taking damage faster than the typical "you're out of stamina and drowning" damage.
