Description
“ | This hot tempered creature is a testament to strength and resilience, along its body lie the weapons once used in an attempt to eradicate it from this world. Solitary in nature, the Iztajuatl appears particularly fond of scorching hot territories. | „ |
~ In-game Description |
Behavior
- Iztajuatl MUST live near volcanic areas, especially babies and male Iztajuatls.
- Iztajuatls are a primarily all-female pack-based species.
- Females tend to disregard or outcast any males.
- Male Iztajuatl CAN NOT and DO NOT "RULE" a pack.
- Since there are more females than males, Iztajuatl females can choose to pair with another female or be solitary.
- Female Iztajuatls have "no maternal instincts whatsoever. Forget them kids".
Artist Headcanon
- The reason Iztajuatl MUST live near volcanic areas, especially babies and male Iztajuatls, is that if they are too far from volcanoes, or in cold areas, the lava within them starts to harden and they turn into complete rock, ultimately "killing" them, the faster the weaker they are.
- Another secondary reason is that Iztajuatl's only way to reproduce is being born from a volcano, as Iztajuatl do not have any reproductive organs and they cannot lay eggs/give birth/etc.
- Being inside a volcano also allows this species to change from male to female. If an Iztajuatl is born male, the females can send it back to the volcano lava soup, wait a few centuries or so, and come out female.
- The reason Iztajuatls are a primarily all-female pack-based species is that adult males are 10x smaller than a female, weak and scrawny, so they tend to disregard or outcast any males, or send them back to the volcano lava soup.
- Iztajuatl's claws are hot enough to melt through rock.
- Iztajuatl can use its tail in a similar manner to an axe.
- Iztajuatl can have varying weapons on their heads, bodies, and tails.
- The sword on Iztajuatl's head can be pulled out and wielded.
It is recommended to look in the "References" section of Gallery for accurate gender/age/size differences provided by Aelures.
Appearance
The Iztajuatl is a fiery, multi-eyed, somewhat lizard-like creature with a glowing sword embedded into its forehead and several glowing joints and magma-themed decorations. Many weapons stick out of its back and tail tip, such as axes, spears, and knives. The back of its neck produces smoke and it also possesses an axe-shaped tail. The Iztajuatl also has multiple eye-like decorations on its limbs, body, and tail. Tusks and blades protrude from its mouth and lower jaw. Its neck and tail are decorated by multiple rock-like spines.
Iztajuatl has no gender dimorphism.
Abilities
Main Article: Creature Abilities
This section is intended to list and describe the abilities of the Iztajuatl. (editor list)
- Ambush is a recode-only ability, inheritor of the Ambush control in Legacy, and thus shares some similarities to it. Ambush can be toggled by pressing (not holding) the correct active ability key (which may vary between creatures). It will automatically deactivate after a set period of time, after stamina runs out, or after halting movement, whichever happens first. Like legacy ambush, recode Ambush ability allows a temporary speed boost according to an ambush multiplier inherent to the species (e.g. x 1.5 or x 1.25), usually granting a faster Sprint (except when the multiplier is x1.0 or lower). It will not be stopped by entering or leaving water once initiated; but at a higher stamina cost and a possible decrease in turn speed, directly making a creature unable to turn while ambushing. Similar to legacy, a creature can know if ambush is toggled not only from the the evident speed boost while moving, but because when pressing the activation button, the camera FOV zooms out a tiny bit. Ambush can be used while sprinting. However, unlike Legacy ambush, pressing the appropriate key again will not stack max time and stamina consumption, and can be initiated underwater by creatures with the appropriate mobility type (however, it still keeps the Legacy characteristic of keeping creatures not adapted to water from initiating ambush underwater). Additionally, Ambushing disrupts strafing.
- Bleed Block/Block Bleed is a passive ability that grants the creature resistance to getting bleed status from melee attacks at the very least, and every other source at most. Recode's equivalent of bleed defense; it is percentage based, e.g. if an attacker deals 5 bleed per hit and the receiver has 60% bleed defense, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 bleed.
- If a creature's Block Bleed is 100%, then they are immune to Bleed inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages, that is, a creature with 100% Block Bleed will have some fraction of bleed defense while growing, being such fraction bigger as it grows.
- A negative value in-game may indicate an extra vulnerability to the status effect this ability is supposed to protect from.
- Burn Block/Block Burn is a passive ability that grants the creature resistance to getting burn status from melee attacks at the very least, and every other source at most. It is percentage based, e.g. if an attacker deals 5 burn per hit and the receiver has 60% block burn, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 burn.
- If a creature's block burn is 100%, then they are immune to Burn inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages, that is, a creature with 100% burn defense will have some fraction of burn defense while growing, being such fraction bigger as it grows.
- Injury Block/Block Injury is a passive ability that grants the creature resistance to getting Injury status from melee attacks at the very least, and every other source at most. It is percentage based, e.g. if an attacker deals 5 Injury per hit and the receiver has 60% Injury Block, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 Injury.
- Burn Attack is an ability that offensively deals burn when biting. Stacks with itself. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.
- Charge (Power) or Power Charge is a specific type of Charge that temporarily increases the user's damage slightly and inflicts Shredded Wings on the victim.
- Burn touch/Defensive burn is an ability that defensively deals burn when bitten. Stacks with itself.
- First Strike is a passive ability that grants a creature increased damage while they are above 75% health. The damage increase is based on the number listed for the creature, and the increase is reflected on the creature's stat menu.
- Grab is an active ability, the recode's equivalent of Legacy's creature "grab a lighter creature", allowing a creature to pick up a lower-tiered creature. Unlike legacy's, it has several pecularities, among them that grabbing is no longer based on weight, but tier. Another peculiarity is that grabbed creatures cannot escape until 5 seconds later. After that, the grabbed creature can struggle by using any button and will release such creature from the grab. The user can ungrab at any moment by pressing the same button used to grab. A creature darting from outside water will grab any creature it finds automatically. Interestingly enough, using this ability may also make a piece of grabbed food drop.
- Iron Stomach is a passive ability which allows the user to eat rotten meat without getting negative ailments from it - preventing getting the Sickly Status.
- Tail Whip/Secondary melee attack is a special active ability which grants another melee attack, usually from behind (thus, Tail Whip), which is activated according to where the camera is facing. Code-wise it has a secondary damage stat, which allows main and secondary melee attacks to deal different base damage. No offensive status effects are given from this secondary attack, and it is not boosted by most effects, except eldering.
- Volcanic is a passive effect which grants the creature the ability to walk in lava without getting hurt nor suffering its status debuffs, and during Famine and Drought grants a 50% health regeneration boost and 25% thirst and hunger rate reduction. Volcanic does not protect a creature from Shadow Isle's corrupted lava.
Carry-able Creatures
The Can-Carry lists features lists of creatures that Iztajuatl is carried by, can carry (grab), can latch, and can be latched by in RECODE. To see the lists and their toggles to view each, click on the collapsible text to the right of the table below, to Expand or Collapse the list.
Can-Grab ListThis section is intended to list the non-elder fully-grown adult creatures that the non-elder fully-grown Iztajuatl can grab and carry (pick-up), taking into account if this creature has grab/latch and discounting any other special abilities. The Iztajuatl (a(n) carnivore) is a tier 5 with 12750 lbs of weight and as long as it has the Grab Ability, it can pick up any creature of lower or equal tier with enough lighter weight difference, as follows:[ Expand Collapse ] Can carry:

Trivia
- Concept by Aelures.
- Inspired by Ares, the God of War, Hephaestus, the God of Fire and Forge, and Aatrox from League of Legends.
- Its name is referred from Iztaccihuatl, which is a dormant volcanic mountain in Mexico.
- The species, canonically, is the first lesbian species known to exist in Sonaria.
- Alongside this, according to lore, they are the only species in the entirety of Sonaria to be demonstrate protandry (where an organism is born as a male, and then changes sex to a female), though they are rare to find.
- Protandry naturally occur in real life in some creatures, among them the most known example is the clownfish.
- Interestingly, clownfish share a similar behavior to the Iztajuatl (albeit less extreme and excluding the lava-motifs and only-spawning-from-volcano): the largest female clownfish is place on the top of its hierarchy, with a few non-reproductive small (juvenile) males as underlings and a single reproductive male. If, for some reason, the female dies, the reproductive male transforms into female and increases size considerably, as such, it's impossible for a male clownfish to be on the top of the group hierarchy.
- Protandry naturally occur in real life in some creatures, among them the most known example is the clownfish.
- Legacy Iztajuatl has dark orange blood. Due to this, it drops a dark orange carcass in Legacy when dying.
- In real life, some creatures have orange shades of blood; for example, when cockroaches are carrying eggs, their hemolymph gets colored by the eggs' albumin protein. However, in this case, it's more of a reference to their status as magma dwellers in-lore.
- As well as Kavouradis, Iztajuatl is the first of the limited creatures whose price got changed over once (from 5,000 upon release to 3,000, then Recode standardized its price to 2,500).
- The Iztajuatl is the first Tier 5 creature to receive the First Strike ability.
