This is the recode-only page for Hyboria. To read information about the legacy-only Hyboria, see Hyboria/Legacy, or select the Legacy Hyboria link from the NavNext.

The Hyboria is a Tier 4 land herbivore. The species is not currently available, but was available in the Valentine Store for Heart 8,500 Hearts during the Valentines Event 2023 and in the Valentine Shop for Rose 5,000 Roses during the Valentines Event 2024. It is an Event creature. The trial version is available in the Trial Creatures Shop for Shoom 200/2000 Shooms.

Description

Hyboria are gentle giants, made of stone and flowers. Hyborias are suspected to have originated from the same place as Gramoss, their purpose is unknown but many have noticed they appear when the land starts to die.
~ In-game Description

Behavior

  • Hyboria are large stone machines made from an unknown race, being gentle giants made of stone and flowers. They’re built to spread large quantities of seeds across dying lands, dropping seeds from their horns and use something similar to magic to make them grow. The Hyboria carry various trees and plants native to an ecosystem.
  • Hyboria are surprisingly light despite being completely made of rock.
  • The horns and head of a Hyboria are hollow in order to carry seeds. "No thoughts, head empty <3" (Quoted by Xhosa).
  • Hyboria can reach speeds up to 45 MPH and can run for hours before needing a break to sit down and charge.
  • Hyboria are often oblivious to the creatures around them, they're programmed to just plant and grow but sometimes they stop directly over creatures to provide shade or shelter.
    • Despite being programmed to ignore, they somehow avoid or step over creatures in their paths. This is mostly due to their size and long legs though.
  • Hyboria start in large, tightly packed groups and slowly fan out to cover more ground, coming back around in large diamond-like shapes to meet in the middle.
  • During the day, Hyboria are active and move around constantly, and once the sun sets below the horizon they slow down and stop in place, still standing, waiting for the sun to rise again.
  • Hyboria can be found everywhere, even in the desert around oasis.
  • Being so large and made of stone, they aren't a target for predators and often have trails of both herbivores and carnivores behind them.
    • The herbivores eat the magically grown plants, and the carnivores stalk the herbivores.

Appearance

The Hyboria is a quadrupedal, sauropod-like creature with a long neck and tail and some artificial-looking plate features throughout its body, more prominently on its neck, legs, shoulder, and back. Square-shaped spikes extend from those plates on its neck and tail, and a nicked spiral shape pattern can be found on the plates at its shoulders and legs. Flowery fur-like spikes adorn its head, neck, shoulders, legs, thighs, and the tip of its tail. Two horns extend from the top of its head and end past the Hyboria's mouth.

Males

Males have no additional features.

Females

Females have tufts of the same flowery fur on the back of their legs.

Abilities

Main Article: Creature Abilities

This section is intended to list and describe the abilities of the Hyboria. (editor list)

  • Bleed Block/Block Bleed is a passive ability that grants the creature resistance to getting bleed status from melee attacks at the very least, and every other source at most. Recode's equivalent of bleed defense; it is percentage based, e.g. if an attacker deals 5 bleed per hit and the receiver has 60% bleed defense, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 bleed.
    • If a creature's Block Bleed is 100%, then they are immune to Bleed inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages, that is, a creature with 100% Block Bleed will have some fraction of bleed defense while growing, being such fraction bigger as it grows.
    • A negative value in-game may indicate an extra vulnerability to the status effect this ability is supposed to protect from.
  • Burn Block/Block Burn is a passive ability that grants the creature resistance to getting burn status from melee attacks at the very least, and every other source at most. It is percentage based, e.g. if an attacker deals 5 burn per hit and the receiver has 60% block burn, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 burn.
    • If a creature's block burn is 100%, then they are immune to Burn inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages, that is, a creature with 100% burn defense will have some fraction of burn defense while growing, being such fraction bigger as it grows.
  • Injury Block/Block Injury is a passive ability that grants the creature resistance to getting Injury status from melee attacks at the very least, and every other source at most. It is percentage based, e.g. if an attacker deals 5 Injury per hit and the receiver has 60% Injury Block, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 Injury.
  • Block Necropoison is a resistance against the Necropoison Status that reduces the amount of status absorbed and damage dealt by it when accumulating this status.
  • Block Poison/Poison Block is a passive ability that grants resistance to poison status once they reach max age (100). Like many other block defenses, it works by blocking a percentage of the ailment received. If a creature's Poison Block is 100%, then they are immune to those stats (and will be healed instantly if they are somehow applied) once they reach age 100.
  • Fortify is an active ability toggled by the regular active abilities buttons and with a 90-second cooldown that wipes pretty much all status effects deemed as negative, except thirst and hunger, plushie-derived and weather effects. However, it may also wipe some beneficial status effects if they present one negative debuff. It also grants a very-short immunity to effects applied shortly after activating this ability, and increases weight by 5% for a short period according to the stack (3, on this case).
  • Heal Breath is an active ability using the breath control (C on PC or BreathIcon on Mobile) that is a type of Elemental Breath with a unique characteristic – it doesn't inflict damage, having a Damage value of 0 DPS (0% PER HIT). Instead, it provides healing for the user, with a Capacity of 10 seconds of continuous use. It has a Regen Rate of 4 seconds, and a Range of 175 studs. Heal Breath is able to self-apply ENERGY (Probability = 75%, no stacking), which provides 10% Max health regen per tick, making it a supportive ability for sustaining health. This breath does not heal other players!
  • Healing Step is a passive ability that activates when the user's health drops to 65% or less. The user leaves a healing trail that restores a customizable % of max health to both the user and any recipients who step in it. This ability only affects the user and their packmates, and the trail is visible only to them. Each trail segment lasts for 8 seconds, with a maximum of 13 segments active at a time.
  • Tail Whip/Secondary melee attack is an special active ability which grants another melee attack, usually from behind (thus, Tail Whip), which is activated according to where the camera is facing. Code-wise it has a secondary damage stat, which allows main and secondary melee attacks to deal different base damage. No offensive status effects are given from this secondary attack, and it is not boosted by most effects, except eldering.
  • Unbreakable is a passive ability that allows the creature to be immune to Bleed, Injury and Shredded Wings.
  • Will To Live is a passive ability which allows a creature to perform typical run and sprint actions without stamina. However, if stamina is depleted and the creature attempts to move fast, it will deal 3% total health as damage every 3 seconds.

Trivia

  • Concept by Xhosa_Onkai in the Creatures of Sonaria Discord.
  • Hyboria has pink blood. Due to this, it drops a pink carcass in Legacy after dying.
    • While in real life purple-violet blood exists due to hemerythrin — a respiratory pigment of a purplish/violet color once oxygenated, which replaces hemoglobin in several invertebrates — this specific shade of pink is not seen.
  • Hyboria was meant to have some degree of poison resistance, however it currently has none.
  • Hyboria had the highest price in the event shop during part 1 of 2024 Valentines Event.
