Appearance
The Gramoss is a large quadrupedal, gargoyle-like creature with a sturdy build and small, flightless wings made of stick-like appendages and stone-like feathers. Its body is primarily light grey with a brown, wood-like underside. Its sleek, somewhat elongated head has moss draping down to its eye area and two mammoth-like tusks extending from the back of the jaw. Two very short tusk-like structures extend down from where its eyes should be, and another structure, resembling a snood, hangs from the forehead on both sides. Four upright plates adorn its neck, while its back and long tail are layered with large plates fanning outwards. The plates break apart into smaller pieces near the tail tip, exposing its wood-like appearance with some branch-like protrusions. The tail tip has moss/leaf-like structures and small upright plates. Moss covers its tusks, neck, back, shoulders, thighs, tail, and upper section of the wings. Sharp quill-like spikes protrude from the moss and plates on its back and tail. The top of Gramoss' hind legs rise higher than its hips. Its thighs feature glowing white patches and five small circular plates. Flat plates stick out behind each leg, and it has four pointy nails on the front legs and three on the back. Glowing white runes adorn its shoulders, upper wings, and the last upright plate on the tail, emitting rune-like symbols.
Male
Males have an extra upright plate with a glowing white rune on top their heads.
Female
Females have four twigs protruding between their neck plates and lack the head plate that males have.
Abilities
Main Article: Creature Abilities
This section is intended to list and describe the abilities of the Gramoss. (editor list)
- Bleed Block/Block Bleed is a passive ability that grants the creature resistance to getting bleed status from melee attacks at the very least, and every other source at most. Recode's equivalent of bleed defense; it is percentage based, e.g. if an attacker deals 5 bleed per hit and the receiver has 60% bleed defense, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 bleed.
- If a creature's Block Bleed is 100%, then they are immune to Bleed inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages, that is, a creature with 100% Block Bleed will have some fraction of bleed defense while growing, being such fraction bigger as it grows.
- A negative value in-game may indicate an extra vulnerability to the status effect this ability is supposed to protect from.
- Frostbite Block/Block Frostbite is a passive ability that grants the creature resistance to getting frostbite status from melee attacks at the very least, and every other source at most. It is percentage based, e.g. if an attacker deals 5 frostbite per hit and the receiver has 60% block frostbite, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 frostbite.
- Injury Block/Block Injury is a passive ability that grants the creature resistance to getting Injury status from melee attacks at the very least, and every other source at most. It is percentage based, e.g. if an attacker deals 5 Injury per hit and the receiver has 60% Injury Block, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 Injury.
- Block Necropoison is a resistance against the Necropoison Status that reduces the amount of status absorbed and damage dealt by it when accumulating this status.
- Block Poison/Poison Block is a passive ability that grants resistance to poison status once they reach max age (100). Like many other block defenses, it works by blocking a percentage of the ailment received. If a creature's Poison Block is 100%, then they are immune to those stats (and will be healed instantly if they are somehow applied) once they reach age 100.
- Broodwatcher is a passive ability that allows creatures to assist in the gestation of other player's eggs. It applies one stack of Gestation Buff to nearby creatures, which increases other creatures' egg gestation speed by 2.5%, and if speed was 0 then it will still provide some boost. The total buff any nesting species can receive is 5%, so only two Broodwatchers can be effective at any one time. Additionally, when sitting near a nest, the Broodwatcher gains 5 Defensive, which starts to decrease if they move.
- Charge (Throw) or Throw Charge is a specific type of Charge that launches the target upwards and inflicts two Broken Legs Status on the victim. It has a 5-second windup and cooldown.
- Cloud Breath is an active ability using the breath control (C on PC or
on Mobile) that is a type of Elemental Breath that inflicts 0 DPS (0% PER HIT). It has a Capacity of 10, a Regen Rate of 2.5, and a Range of 250 studs. It provides SelfHeal at 2% Max health regen per sec and Stamina Regen at 5% Max stamina regen per sec. It can also self-provide Water Regeneration (Thirst refill, the more the higher level is stacked) (Probability = 99%, no stacking), and Muddy (Probability = 40%, no STACKS).
- Injury Attack is an ability that offensively deals injury status when biting. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.
- Mud Pile is an active ability which allows a creature to place a mud pile that lasts 60 seconds. Creatures can wallow in the mud to gain healing Muddy Status and gain unscentable status for 90 seconds.
- Pack Healer is a pack-oriented passive ability. This passive ability allows you to boost the HP regen of your fellow packmates . It is because of this that creatures who have this ability are considered "Support creatures".
- Tail Whip/Secondary melee attack is a special active ability which grants another melee attack, usually from behind (thus, Tail Whip), which is activated according to where the camera is facing. Code-wise it has a secondary damage stat, which allows main and secondary melee attacks to deal different base damage. No offensive status effects are given from this secondary attack, and it is not boosted by most effects, except eldering.
Carry-able Creatures
The Can-Carry lists features lists of creatures that Gramoss is carried by, can carry (grab), can latch, and can be latched by in RECODE. To see the lists and their toggles to view each, click on the collapsible text to the right of the table below, to Expand or Collapse the list.
Can-Grab ListThis section is intended to list the non-elder fully-grown adult creatures that the non-elder fully-grown Gramoss can grab and carry (pick-up), taking into account if this creature has grab/latch and discounting any other special abilities. The Gramoss (a(n) herbivore) is a tier 5 with 22500 lbs of weight and as long as it has the Grab Ability, it can pick up any creature of lower or equal tier with enough lighter weight difference.* There is no creature which the Gramoss can currently carry
Grabbed-By ListThis section is intended to list the non-elder fully-grown adult creatures that can grab and thus carry a non-elder fully-grown adult Gramoss taking into account grab/latch abilities and discounting special abilities. The Gramoss (a(n) herbivore) is a tier 5 with 22500 lbs of weight and can be picked up by any creature of higher or equal tier with enough heavier weight difference and the Grab ability.* There is no creature which can currently carry the Gramoss
Can-Latch ListThis section is intended to list the non-elder fully-grown adult creatures that the non-elder fully-grown Gramoss can latch into, but not carry; taking into account latch/grab abilities and discounting any other special ability. The Gramoss (a(n) herbivore) is a tier 5 with 22500 lbs of weight and as long as it has the Latch ability, it can latch into any creature of higher tier with enough heavier weight difference.* There is no creature which the Gramoss can currently grab but not carry
Latched-By ListThis section is intended to list the non-elder fully-grown adult creatures that can grab but not carry (latch onto) the non-elder fully-grown Gramoss discounting special abilities. The Gramoss (a(n) herbivore) is a tier 5 with 22500 lbs of weight and can be latched onto by any creature of lower tier and enough lighter weight difference, as follows:[

Trivia
- Designed by @Ke_sas on the Creatures of Sonaria Discord.
- The Gramoss "was inspired by the words 'guardian of the forest.'"
- Modeled by Erythia.
- Redesign modeled by KaiTheUntamable.
- They emit small rune particles.
- It is one of the slowest Tier 5 creatures in the game.
- Gramoss is one of the few creatures to attack by headbutting rather than biting or slashing. Other creatures with this trait are the Aereis and Gnolrok.
- On June 18th, 2021, the Gramoss was moved from the Random Gacha and Herbivores Gacha to the Session Gacha. After Celeritas came out, it was moved back to the Herbivores Gacha, along with Shro.
- The Gramoss has beige blood with a limestone texture, making it look like it bleeds melted rock/concrete.
- In the Legacy version of the game, its blood is white.
- Due to this, when killed, the Gramoss drops a white carcass in Legacy.
- The Gramoss previous design had green blood and had dropped a green carcass.
- This is an actual color in some Earth creatures: both from those that use chlorocruorin, a green oxygen carrier that replaces hemoglobin in some invertebrates blood; and in some vertebrates (like some green tree skinks) that have adapted to carry lethal amounts of biliverdin in their blood, which is a toxic byproduct of heme catabolism whose only good side is that it has anti-mutagenic properties. Its possibly green just because of the inspiration of this creature, meaning the blood could be sap or moss, which is more fitting for the Gramoss.
- In the Legacy version of the game, its blood is white.
- The Gramoss was originally intended to be Stood_04's developer creature.
- The Gramoss once borrowed calls from the Lmakosauruodon before new ones were added on May 31st, 2021. [Expand] for Classic Calls.
