This is the recode-only page for Coniferon. To read information about the legacy-only Coniferon, see Coniferon/Legacy, or select the Legacy Coniferon link from the NavNext.

The Coniferon is a Tier 4 land photovore. The species is not currently available, but was available in the Christmas Shop for Candy Cane 10,000 Candy Canes during the Winter Event 2024-2025.

It was previously available in...

It is an Event creature. The trial version is available in the Trial Creatures Shop for Shoom 200/2000 Shooms.

Description

A gentle giant bearing a star-like crest at the top of its towering neck. Gazing up from below a Coniferon's neck makes it seem as if there is a second North Star in the sky. It will sometimes raise smaller creatures with its ribbonlike appendages for a better view of the starry nights.
~ In-game Description

Behavior

  • Coniferons smell fresh like actual pine trees.
  • The green "feathers" on Coniferon are actually leaves, which they use to photosynthesize with.
  • Their ribbon-like appendages can be used as "hands".
  • Coniferons absolutely love the company of other creatures, especially smaller ones. They interact with them very playfully and even guide them to unseen parts of the tundra.
  • During the night, it is unknown why they are so extremely interested in the stars: a theory could be that they were once spirits among the stars that descended onto the pine trees in the tundra.
  • They prefer peace, stopping any chaos in their territory by interfering, stepping right in between the commotion.
  • If any visitor passes their territory, Coniferons will gift them berries or pinecones as a sign of peace while jingling the bells on their necks excitedly.
    • The ribbons on Coniferon represent "presents", as it uses these ribbons to give "gifts" (berries and healing) to others.
  • If they are tired, Coniferon can absorb water from their feet instead of using their mouth, although this takes longer.

Appearance

The Coniferon is a quadrupedal, long-necked creature. It has a short tail that, along with its neck, is adorned with greenery similar to that of an evergreen tree. Its stomach and legs seem to replicate wood, with brown colors and swirled patterns. It has a clump of fur or leaves/needles on each foot. Its head is similar to that of a bird's, bearing an ornamental golden crest consisting of two horn-like structures with floating crystals at their tops, along with a golden ribbon found on either side of its head. Two of the same ribbons can be found on its tail. On each of its legs, it has a "frill" similar to the other greenery covering the majority of its body.

Males

Males have small orange crests on their legs and shoulders.

Females

Females have two multicolored bells on each side of their neck.

Abilities

Main Article: Creature Abilities

This section is intended to list and describe the abilities of the Coniferon. (editor list)

  • Ambush is a recode-only ability, inheritor of the Ambush control in Legacy, and thus shares some similarities to it. Ambush can be toggled by pressing (not holding) the correct active ability key (which may vary between creatures). It will automatically deactivate after a set period of time, after stamina runs out, or after halting movement, whichever happens first. Like legacy ambush, recode Ambush ability allows a temporary speed boost according to an ambush multiplier inherent to the species (e.g. x 1.5 or x 1.25), usually granting a faster Sprint (except when the multiplier is x1.0 or lower). It will not be stopped by entering or leaving water once initiated; but at a higher stamina cost and a possible decrease in turn speed, directly making a creature unable to turn while ambushing. Similar to legacy, a creature can know if ambush is toggled not only from the the evident speed boost while moving, but because when pressing the activation button, the camera FOV zooms out a tiny bit. Ambush can be used while sprinting. However, unlike Legacy ambush, pressing the appropriate key again will not stack max time and stamina consumption, and can be initiated underwater by creatures with the appropriate mobility type (however, it still keeps the Legacy characteristic of keeping creatures not adapted to water from initiating ambush underwater). Additionally, Ambushing disrupts strafing.
  • Bleed Block/Block Bleed is a passive ability that grants the creature resistance to getting bleed status from melee attacks at the very least, and every other source at most. Recode's equivalent of bleed defense; it is percentage based, e.g. if an attacker deals 5 bleed per hit and the receiver has 60% bleed defense, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 bleed.
    • If a creature's Block Bleed is 100%, then they are immune to Bleed inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages, that is, a creature with 100% Block Bleed will have some fraction of bleed defense while growing, being such fraction bigger as it grows.
    • A negative value in-game may indicate an extra vulnerability to the status effect this ability is supposed to protect from.
  • Frostbite Block/Block Frostbite is a passive ability that grants the creature resistance to getting frostbite status from melee attacks at the very least, and every other source at most. It is percentage based, e.g. if an attacker deals 5 frostbite per hit and the receiver has 60% block frostbite, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 frostbite.
  • Broodwatcher is a passive ability that allows creatures to assist in the gestation of other player's eggs. It applies one stack of Gestation Buff to nearby creatures, which increases other creatures' egg gestation speed by 2.5%, and if speed was 0 then it will still provide some boost. The total buff any nesting species can receive is 5%, so only two Broodwatchers can be effective at any one time. Additionally, when sitting near a nest, the Broodwatcher gains 5 Defensive, which starts to decrease if they move.
  • Day/Night Time Status are an environmental status effect that confers a +5% damage, +25% stamina regen, -10% growth time, +15% health regen; and -5% damage, -25% stamina regen, -15% health regen; respectively, to photovores and photocarnivores.
  • Defensive Bleed is a passive ability, where a creature defensively inflicts a specific amount of melee bleed status on an attacker upon getting bitten.
  • Frosty is a passive ability, equivalent to Legacy's Winter Tag, causes the creature with the tag to receive a buff of +25% stamina regeneration, +25% health regeneration, -25% thirst depletion, and -25% hunger depletion during Winter and Famine seasons, and prevents getting hypothermia from blizzards.
  • Healing Hunter is a toggleable active ability which allows the creature to deal healing melee hits which replenish the target's HP when hitting. Code-wise it's more than the Negative Attack legacy version, since it does not just give a negative base attack value, hence the name; but it also allows the healer to toggle between melee heal mode and attack mode, when the healer becomes actually capable of dealing melee damage, albeit at a different value according to their individual and species stats. It also prevents bleed and poison-booster plushies from giving extra offensive bleed or poison when hitting under melee healing mode.
    • It can be known if a healing hunter creature is on healing mode by the presence of a pink hollow sphere with pink healing cross particles surrounding part of their body.
  • Keen Observer is a passive ability that allows the user to see the health of nearby creatures as a green HP bar over them. It also includes the ability to see equipped Plushies and all the Traits and status effects affecting them, albeit not their exact levels or ascension directly. Temporary or status buffs are set on green, temporary status debuffs on red, traits now present their correct indicator and plushies are marked with their plushie icon. These have several advantages, from knowing who to protect, knowing if someone is suffering hypothermia/hunger/dehydration, spotting invisible and scent-hidden creatures, to knowing which target is the weakest/most debuffed and acting in consequence.

Carry-able Creatures

The Can-Carry lists features lists of creatures that Coniferon is carried by, can carry (grab), can latch, and can be latched by in RECODE. To see the lists and their toggles to view each, click on the collapsible text to the right of the table below, to Expand or Collapse the list.

Trivia

  • Concept by Kyzenith in the Creatures of Sonaria Discord.
  • Modeled by JaxonBirb.
  • Animated by Mukudori.
  • The Coniferon has light green blood.
    • Due to this, when killed, the Coniferon drops a light green carcass in Legacy.
    • This is an actual color in some Earth creatures: both from those that use chlorocruorin, a green oxygen carrier that replaces hemoglobin in some invertebrates' blood and in some vertebrates (like some green-blooded lizards) that have adapted to carry lethal amounts of biliverdin in their blood, which is a toxic byproduct of heme catabolism whose only good side is that it has antimutagenic properties. It is possibly green just because of the inspiration of this creature, meaning the blood could be a sap, which is more fitting for the Coniferon.
  • Coniferon is the very first photovore to receive the ambush ability. Also, before its abilities changed in Recode, it was the first photovore to receive an Elemental Breath ability in Legacy.
  • It is the first Christmas Event creature to be an HP healer and the second overall Christmas Event healer if taking into account that Norskogg had Pack Healer ability during the first weeks of its release.
  • Many people refer to it as "pine llama" or "pine alpaca".
