Color Palettes are one of the features of Creatures of Sonaria, used to customize the coloring of the player's creature. All creatures have a main color palette which doesn't need to be unlocked, but this page features other palettes that are obtained in various ways, such as doing missions, meeting Developers in-game, or being bought with Shooms or event currencies.
Secondary Color Palettes[]
Secondary color palettes are alternate color palettes that can be unlocked and used when customizing one's creature. Not all creatures have a secondary color palette, but those that do have a set condition that must be completed before the palette can be unlocked and used.
In order to save save file space, from the 13th January 2022 update, if you don't own the species its second color palette locks by default.
Mission Palettes[]
- These palettes are unlocked by completing certain conditions, which are available to view in the customization screen by hovering over the palette preview images above the customization sliders, as well as in the list below. The palette preview on the left is the primary palette, and on the right is the secondary palette.
- Secondary color palettes can only be unlocked by completing conditions within one session. A session starts when a player chooses to play a creature, and ends any time a player leaves the game. For some secondary color palette conditions, the session may also end and reset when a player chooses to go to the Main Menu.
- If your creature dies before you complete the mission, your progress will be saved. You can spawn in again to finish your progress.
- Once the task to get the palette has been completed, there will be a pop up on your screen in the bottom right corner, and another in chat in big, red letters that tells you that you've unlocked the palette for said creature.
- Once unlocked, secondary color palettes will stay permanently unlocked.

Meet the Developer Palettes[]
All Developer Creatures have a similar secondary palette condition, where the player must meet the developer that the developer creature represents. In order to 'meet' a developer, one must be in the same server as the developer and within a certain radius of the developer in-game. One can usually tell if they've successfully met the developer if there is a pop up in the corner of the screen telling the player they've received the palette for that creature, although developers can disable this notification to remain unnoticed.
- You must own the species of the developer creature in order to receive the palette. However, you are not required to play as that creature to receive it.
- You can still receive the secondary palette for ex-developer creatures of retired developers, as these palettes eventually get turned into mission palettes.
If a player 'meets' a developer but doesn't have the species of their corresponding developer creature, the player does not get the creature's secondary palette.

Special Color Palettes[]
Special Color Palettes released alongside the Halloween Event of 2021 update during Part 1 and the Saukuryn Remodel on October 22nd, 2021.
The limits of these Special Palettes are as follows:
- They are purchased per stored creature instead of being species-wide unlocks, and function as a single-use item.
- By extension, they can be traded.
- Once applied to a stored creature, it stays on that stored creature until changing the palette via an Appearance Change Token (either to a different Special Palette, or to no palette), from which the replacement palette (or no palette) will be used, and the previous palette will be returned to your inventory.
- If nested by a creature with a special palette, the baby will appear to have that palette. However, if you use an Appearance Change Token on the nested baby, you will not have a special palette on it. In order to recolor it with the special palette's colors, you will have to own at least one copy of the palette in question.
- Should you delete a creature from your inventory, the palette is deleted alongside the creature.
- Joining someone's nest will also delete the palette.
- If an Appearance Change Token is available, the delete button for a creature will prompt the player to use one of their tokens to retrieve the Special Palette before deleting the creature, even on dead creatures.
Players can open the Special Color Palettes shop by creating a new creature or revisiting the customization step through the use of an Appearance Change Token. By clicking on the plus (+) symbol next to where Secondary Color Palettes and Main Palette preview buttons are located, players can open the window featuring all purchasable Special Color Palettes.
Special Color Palettes are:
- A one stored-creature-per-use that stays with the specific stored creature even after reviving from death using the Revive Token.
- Available to all creatures.
- May cost Shooms or special event currency depending on the palette.
Using the Demo Feature[]
There is a unique option to demo special palettes. By clicking the 'DEMO' option on unowned special palettes, the selected Special Color Palette will swap out with whatever palette is currently available to use for customization. This allows users to paint creatures before purchasing the palette. If a user demos a palette but does not purchase it from the shop, then everything colored with that palette that isn't close enough to one of the unlocked palette's colors will change to the closest color on the unlocked palettes after clicking 'Play'. The only exceptions are in the public test world and the map remodel, where the game doesn't check any of these so you can actually use the palettes in Demo feature without paying for them.

Material Override Palettes[]
Material Palettes released on June 10th, 2022. They allow the user to change the texture of the creature (and its objects, as seen with Ani's orbs), and partially disallow customization, but are glimmer compatible, allowing you to still show glimmer while using them. Some of them have special qualities, such as the "Signature Look" Material Palettes (which additionally appear with a golden ring around the Material Palette Selector).
Using a material palette doesn't count for customization. That is, a default-colored creature using any material override palette can still be customized later (including swapping genders) without the use of an appearance change token.
Materials[]
Non-signature looks inherit skin colors so that even with special textures applied, players can make their own unique color selections to skins.
