Color Palettes are one of the features of Creatures of Sonaria, used to customize the coloring of the player's creature. All creatures have a main color palette which doesn't need to be unlocked, but this page features other palettes that are obtained in various ways, such as completing missions, participating in events, or being bought with 
Shooms or event currencies.

What are Color Palettes?
Color Palettes, previously called Special Color Palettes, released alongside the Halloween Event of 2021 Part 1 and the Saukuryn Remodel on October 22nd, 2021.
The limits of these Color Palettes are as follows:
- Once purchased, they can be applied to one stored creature at a time.
- Once applied to a stored creature, it stays on that stored creature until changing the palette via an Appearance Change Token (either to a different color palette, or to no palette), from which the replacement palette (or no palette) will be used, and the previous palette will be returned to your inventory.
- If nested by a creature with a color palette, the baby will spawn with a "Nested Palette".
- After this, players are able to equip an additional color palette in the menu.
- Should you try to delete a stored creature equipped with a palette from your inventory, you will receive a prompt to keep that palette at the cost of one Appearance Change Token.
Buying a new palette from the creature appearance editor
Players can open the Color Palettes shop either by creating a new stored creature and clicking on the multi-colored plus (+) symbol next to where the Main Palette/Secondary Palette preview is located, then clicking the "Buy More" button, or clicking the Shop button and navigating to the "Palettes" section. Same applies for Materials, except it's the rocky-themed plus (+) symbol, and leads to the "Materials" section of the shop.
Color Palettes are:
- A one stored-creature-per-use that stays with the specific stored creature even after reviving from death using the Revive Token.
- Available to all creatures.
- May cost
Shooms or special event currency depending on the palette. - Can be traded.
What are Material Overrides, Themes, and Signature Looks?
Material Overrides released on June 10th, 2022. They allow the user to change the texture of a stored creature slot, and are compatible with the Glimmer mutation. Most Material Overrides are not permanent, meaning you have to use an Appearance Change token to get them back when deleting a slot. Certain material overrides, such as Forcefield and the merchandise materials, do not require an Appearance Change token to retrieve. The player will be prompted when trying to delete a creature slot that has a material equipped, it will not delete your material override without warning.
There is no meaningful difference between a Theme and a Signature Look. Both have a limited palette of customization and both may come with a particle effect when equipped. These palettes only have four colors to choose from. They appear in editor like a palette with only four colors. Certain colors may have a star above them, indicating a particle effect. Each color also has a set material, with the colors marked with a star more often than not having a different material than the rest (i.e. neon or forcefield over the other marble-themed colors). Removing a Signature Look or Theme will reset your creature's skin. Themes and Signature Looks are permanent and return to your inventory when deleting a creature slot.
Collectively, all three are referred to as "materials" or "material palettes". Using a material palette doesn't count for customization; a default-colored creature using any material palette can still be customized later (including swapping genders) without the use of an appearance change token.
Secondary Color Palettes
As an exception to the rules stated above, Secondary Color Palettes are alternate color palettes that are free to use to certain species. Not all creatures have a secondary color palette, but those that do have many more customization options. These palettes are not purchasable in any way, nor are they able to be used outside of their designated species.
Previously, players would have needed to complete a mission in order to use a creature's second color palette. This feature was removed for the most part when the Recode of the game took place. Now, if a player owns a species that has a second palette, they are able to use it with no requirements. This includes previously unobtainable secondary palettes such as Koipise[1]'s and Cottol[2]'s.

Only one creature in Recode has ever had a Secondary mission palette, the Guardian Dragon, whose second palettes were obtained by completing the Ninjago Legend's Quest. The way this quest was completed dictated which palette was received. The palettes, unlike normal secondary palettes, behave like Nested Palettes in that they are lost upon restarting (not reviving) the slot.
Standard Palettes/Materials
Standard Palettes and Materials are always able to be accessed by players, no matter what event is currently ongoing. A player is able to access these customization tools at any time, either by purchasing them from the shop, completing missions, or doing other activities around the map.
There may be additional ways to obtain any given palette/material during an event (Ex: Opening a Christmas Present Token and receiving a Concrete Material Override), but that palette/material will always be available outside of events.

Timed Mission Palettes
These palettes are obtainable as one of several Daily Mission rewards, which rotate every 24 hours. They can be collected manually from the Missions window upon completion. Missions do not change between palettes and progress is carried over to the next day until the mission is completed. Daily Missions are currently the only type of regular Timed Mission with palette rewards.
