Description
“Cervalis are elegant and tall creatures, definitely a gorgeous and rare sight. They are pack animals and are highly social, often in groups of up to 6 individuals. They feed on long grass and berries, and occasionally tree bark in the winter. Males have bright colors for the purpose of impressing the more dull females, and tend to spar with other males. Their antlers may be pretty, but they can be quite a burden- often ending up in clumsiness on a male's part. Despite this, these herbivores are very graceful in nature, and are quite fast- but beware, carnivores, they'll put up quite a fight.”
Appearance
Cervalis resembles a mix of a canid and a hoofed mammal (such as a deer.) Its body is a chocolate color, with its armor plates being an even darker shade of brown. Its underbelly is a shade of gray-ish tan, and its eyes are light blue. The male Cervalis is equipped with large, thin antlers which curve backwards and end in two points facing upwards. The males are streaked with blue and yellow markings as well, while the females lack the antlers and patterns. Both genders of this creature have a long, angular face, and two black fangs visibly sticking out of the front of their jaw. Their hind legs are hooved, while they have clawed paws on their front legs. The Cervalis has a long, bushy tail with silky fur.
Males
Males have bright markings along their bodies and large, thin antlers. They have a larger body than the females, have bright yellow and blue markings along their body, and have a tuft of fur above their eye instead of the eyespot below like the females possess.
Females
Females have a plain appearance, do not have any bright markings, and have small horns compared to the antlers of the males. The females also have a tan semi-circle marking under their eye. The armor-like structures on females are smaller than those of the males, and the females have a smaller sized body compared to males.
Trivia
- Designed by @lavenderbee on the Creatures of Sonaria Discord.
- Modeled by Jaxon.
- Cervalis was originally based on a tufted deer.
- Similarly, the Cervalis' name may be derived from the word 'cervine', meaning 'relating to deer'.
- In an early concept, the Cervalis was going to be a trickster-appearing as prey to lure in smaller predators to attack and eat. This was ultimately decided against.
