This article and category refers to the legacy version of the glider mobility type. For the current recode version, see Glider.

Gliders were a relatively uncommon mobility type in legacy, characterized by their shared ability to glide, but inability to fly. While their type gacha is the legacy Sky Gacha (which they shared with fliers), there are currently no gliders available in this gacha. Due to their rarity, they incidentally only appear in the Photovore and Monster Explorer Gachas. Internally, they are categorized as terrestrials and will be treated as such in several circumstances, such as in some menus and missions.

Legacy gliders generally all share the following traits:

  • They can walk and run on land, regaining stamina any time they are not running so long as they are not also swimming.
  • At the expense of some stamina, gliders can take off any time they are standing and will promptly enter glide. Unlike fliers, gliders to not regenerate stamina while in glide. Using the glide key again will allow the glider to beat its wings (or other appendages) to gain more height at the cost of additional stamina. A glider with insufficient stamina cannot take off nor beat its wings.
    • Gliders with broken bones cannot take off.
    • Using the toggle fly/glide key (F on PC) as a glider will allow the creature to drop mid-glide. A creature can reenter glide while falling without expending any stamina.
  • Unlike fliers, gliders do not regenerate stamina while gliding, but gliding itself does not deplete stamina, either. As a result, gliders can only beat their wings a fixed amount of times without landing.
  • While they can dive and swim underwater, their speed will severely reduce and they will not regenerate stamina. Instead, the bar will passively deplete for as long as they are suspended in water, and the creature will suffer drowning damage once the bar is emptied.
    • They cannot sprint in water under normal circumstances. Gliders with the ability to ambush can continue sprinting if they travel into water mid-ambush, but this requires that the ability be activated on land. Initiating ambush underwater is not possible.
    • If they have sufficient stamina, gliders can take off from the surface of the water.
  • Gliders cannot sit or lay down underwater, nor can they emote. They also cannot preform any of these actions mid-air.
  • Nests and food storages cannot be placed underwater by fliers. Female gliders place terrestrial nests.
  • Unless they have a Winter tag, gliders suffer hypothermia damage when attempting to swim during winter and famine. They may also be drowned by being encased in ice during the winter.

Gliding creatures with semi-aquatic traits are not categorized as standard gliders, instead falling into the glider semi-aquatic mobility type.

There are 10 creatures of this type.

Trivia[]

  • The introduction of the Photovore Exploration Gacha can be credited for completely removing gliders from main gachas entirely, as every main gacha glider at the time was a photovore.
  • Although unintentional, and because creatures regenerate stamina while falling, a glider can indefinitely gain height by repeatedly exiting and reentering glide mid-air.
